More About MG Hunt:

How long does it take you to write a book? How long does each stage of the process usually take?

It can take me many years. For Still Waters Run Deep, it took me six years to get it published! One to two years of writing, another year of editing and sending it to beta readers, and another few years of preparing to self publish (design and formal editing).

What is your favourite type of character to write?

I enjoy writing characters that grow. I love watching the transformation of characters that experience a profound transition from who they were at the start of the novel to the end. It also does not matter to me if it is for better or for worse ;) It is still fascinating.

*

What do you do when you find yourself in a bit of a writing rut? Is there any strategy you find works for you to help the words start flowing again?

I try to write at least a sentence every day. Even if I do not want to, I say to myself if I can just write one sentence, then I am making progress.

*

What is something you wish you had known earlier on in your writing career?

I wish I had the confidence to believe in myself and what I am writing. There is room for all ideas and concepts out there, and if I had the confidence in myself from the beginning, I would have shared my story much sooner than the six years it took to get out there. But, there is also no time limit, and we have all the time in the world to get your story out there.

Do you mine your own life for ideas, settings and/or characters?

Not really for characters, but for settings I have gleaned a lot of inspiration from the places I have travelled to. One of them specifically is Iceland. Travelling around the incredible and otherworldly landscape that is Iceland inspired me to write the setting of the 'Northern Wilderness' in my book Still Waters Run Deep.

What's next for your writing?

My next and current writing project that is still in draft mode is a story focused on the antagonist, Gatira, in my debut novel Still Waters Run Deep.
