More About Leigh Jack:

How long does it take you to write a book? How long does each stage of the process usually take?

Writing a book takes me about a year. Getting the story down is my most fun part! From there, I read it back to myself on the computer. After that, I turn it into an epub with formatting so I can read it through my Kindle. This is helpful because it looks like I am reading a real book. When I have it polished again, I begin reading it out loud. Finally, my last self editing is one more read through before sending it off to my editors. When it is polished once again, my ARC team reads it!

What is your favourite type of character to write?

My favorite type of character to write it one who I relate to. I try to include aspects of my life, as well as my family and friends, into my characters. By doing this, I hope my characters come across as relatable and everyone connects with someone in my story.

What do you do when you find yourself in a bit of a writing rut? Is there any strategy you find works for you to help the words start flowing again?

I love to read! I find that seeing other author’s writing styles, and getting inspiration from other books, works best for me.

What is something you wish you had known earlier on in your writing career?

I wish I had known to not be afraid! My motto is now just do it. There will be readers who connect with your story if you dream big and go for it. Don’t let doubt hold you back.

*

Do you mine your own life for ideas, settings and/or characters?

Absolutely! I use my own life, as well as tropes. For example, my current book, Chasing Hearts, is about two sisters and their incredible bond. I also have a sister with whom I am very close.

What authors or books inspire you the most?

First and foremost, I love romance! I am inspired by authors like Sarah Adams and Abby Jimenez. A new genre I’ve gotten into is thrillers. I’ve read a lot of Freida McFadden books, and they have inspired me to plant twists and turns that keep the reader guessing.

What's next for your writing?

After Chasing Hearts, my Hearts series is complete! Both Shared Hearts and Chasing Hearts can be found on Amazon. Next is a Christmas novel coming in December!
