Faery Queen - A Fae of Andell Prequel
The cold fae queen is perhaps not as heartless as she seems. This prequel novella to The Fae of Andell series answers the question of how the Seelie Queen's Sweet Robin came to be a mortal alone in the world of the fae, Royal Bard second to none in her court. It is a sweet, heartbreaking story that will make you view the Faery Queen in a whole new light.
More About Elizabeth Coult:
How long does it take you to write a book? How long does each stage of the process usually take?
A novella like Faery Queen or Sweet Robin will take me around six months to write from start to finish. I start with a fairly detailed outline that takes a few days to complete. Then I handwrite the first draft, writing between 1000-2000 words a day until this stage is complete. This draft helps me define the characters a lot more, and often the story will change as the characters become more clear to me. Once this rough draft is complete I leave it for a week or two, then I complete a full rewrite, using the first draft as a jumping off point for the real story. This is the stage that requires my full focus as I work on crafting a seamless story that lets my characters shine. After than I edit and send to my wonderful beta readers. Their feedback will determine how long the next round/s of rewrites and edits will be.

What is your favourite type of character to write?
I love a real smart alec. Someone who will make me snort with laughter when they say something irreverant.

Do you mine your own life for ideas, settings and/or characters?
I don't know about mining my life, but I certainly mine history for ideas. I am a huge history nerd and studied Museum Studies for my University post-grad, so ancient society likes to tickle my brain for ideas for my fantasy worlds. The Seelie Queen in Faery Queen was inspired by the Scottish Folktale, Tamlain and the Faery Queen, as well as Queen Elizabeth I of England. Queen Ailsa is flirtatious and loves admiration, but she is also clever and cunning and never allows her heart to overrule her head - except for the one time, which you will see in Faery Queen.

What do you do when you find yourself in a bit of a writing rut? Is there any strategy you find works for you to help the words start flowing again?
I go back to where it all began - reading good books. I find so much inspiration in stories told by other people, as well as in history, myth and legend.

What authors or books inspire you the most?
I first fell in love with history through the books of Jean Plaidy, and to this day I find her enormous body of work incredibly inspirational. If I could have even half her career I would be very happy.

What's next for your writing?
I am currently working on Book 2 of the Fae of Andell series. All of the characters from Sweet Robin and Faery Queen will be there in one form or another, and there will be magic, action and adventure, as well as a hefty dose of romance. I love the world of Andell so much that I want to spend all of my time there. I am also secretly working on a new project on the side, but I can't say much about that at the moment.
