From the Blurb:

Catherine Harridan is a woman of many names and many talents. She was groomed from a young age to be Wraithland’s top assassin. Now in her mid-30s, she has settled into the life built for her, until a long-buried vision from her childhood flashes through her mind raising questions about the motivations of the kingdom that she has spent her life killing for. This along with an ancient prophecy, and a mysterious newcomer, creates tension between her and her fellow society of assassins. Now she is presented with the choice to ignore it all and accept the hand she has been dealt or fight to change everything for herself and her world.

More About the Author:

How long does it take you to write a book? How long does each stage of the process usually take?

This is my first published book, but I've written a bunch of others so I don't have a ton of experience about my process to draw on. That being said my first drafts usually take 3-6 months when I get serious about a book. Once the first draft is done, it's about 6-9 months of Alpha/Beta Readers, Editors, Final edits, and ARC Readers before release.

What is your favourite type of character to write?

Right now it's the badass Female who knows who she is. Sure there might be some things that turn her idea of self on its head, but I'm over the young girls just figuring it out thing. I want MC's that reflect maturity. That's why most of my MC's are in their late 20s to their 40s.

*

Do you mine your own life for ideas, settings and/or characters?

There are definitely character traits, features, or mannerisms that I take from real life, but nothing really concrete. I've always had a pretty vivid imagination.

*

What is something you wish you had known earlier on in your writing career?

How to market better. I had published a non-fiction book, so the logistics I understood, but marketing a fantasy novel was like a whole new thing for me.

*

What do you do when you find yourself in a bit of a writing rut? Is there any strategy you find works for you to help the words start flowing again?

I write every day and have for roughly the last 15 years. Even when I'm not working on a book, when I was an engineer right out of college I started my mornings with a cup of tea and writing prompts off Reddit. If I'm in a slump on my current WIP I write something else, just to keep the juices flowing and the habit up. Often switching genres, or thinking about a different project sparks something, and even if it doesn't the time spent perfecting my craft is not a waste.

*

What is your favourite writing resource?

A standard thesaurus.

*

What authors or books inspire you the most?

I read a wide variety but some of my favorites are Phillipa Gregory, Ken Follet, Danielle L. Jensen, Erik Larson, Kristen Hannah, and lots more.

*

What's next for your writing?

Rin is just the first book in a cycle of books about the women of the Harridan Society. I want to explore the stories of women from various backgrounds and how they overcome living in a world that is not kind to them.
