From the Blurb:

Life in Pelican Cove is about to be disrupted when felines and big feelings move into the neighbourhood along with the newcomers. Meryl starts having unsolicited feelings for local yogi, Louis, aka Captain Underpants. She valiantly fights the moral dilemma of falling in love ‘at her age’. However, she’s secretly enjoying the new experience, until her grown-up daughter casts doubt in her mind. In a spontaneous act of defiance, Meryl decides to engage in the friendship of a secret admirer, Gardening Pop, via a local gardening forum as well. They share misguided messages of blooms as their friendship blossoms. Meanwhile, Louis, Captain Underpants, finds himself in a love triangle of his own, when yogi, Glenda, makes her move on him. Glenda elicits the help of her close friend, Antoinette, and the two go off on a Relationship101 Girls Only Weekend Getaway. There, they literally stumble upon sizzling trail guide, Andy. Soon, Glenda discovers she has no need to poach Louis after all. Will Meryl still be interested in him? Or has Gardening Pop plucked at her heartstrings? This laugh-out-loud romcom novella brings out the best and the worst in the people of Pelican Cove, in a tangle of love and laughter, and other disasters.

More About Elora Canne:

How long does it take you to write a book? How long does each stage of the process usually take?

I’m a multi-writer, so it usually takes a full year for me to complete any of my manuscripts.

*

What is your favourite type of character to write?

I really enjoyed writing my grumpy/sunshine character this time round. I think it has become my favourite.

*

Do you mine your own life for ideas, settings and/or characters?

Definitely! The opening scene of ‘Love & Laughter’ occurred in real life. My neighbour was literally on his hands and knees in his garden, grumbling about the neighbourhood cat, when I walked past on my morning walk. It instantly became a story for me.

*

What is something you wish you had known earlier on in your writing career?

To take my time and not rush the story.

*

What do you do when you find yourself in a bit of a writing rut? Is there any strategy you find works for you to help the words start flowing again?

This is the reason I became a multi-writer; I find if I change tack, the creativity flows again.

*

What is your favourite writing resource?

Pinterest has so much variety, it’s my go-to for all things writing. And ProWritingAid helped a lot with editing.

*

What authors or books inspire you the most?

For Love & Laughter I sought out other later-in-life romance writers. These were my favourites: Marcia Willet, Alexander McCall Smith, Sally Andrews, Jasmine Guillory.

*

What's next for your writing?

I have two complete manuscripts to edit for 2025, and hopefully release before the year is over. One is another nonfiction, Adventures in Uluru; and the other is a YA fiction, Forest of Sun and Shadows.
